A pilot project focused on work zone visibility

The City of Madrid has launched a pilot project integrating an LED lighting system onto street cleaning and waste collection vehicles. The device projects a beam onto the ground that outlines the work area, making the vehicle's position and the space where staff are working more visible.

A report featured in the trade press

The Spanish magazine Equipamiento y Servicios Municipales featured this trial on September 3, 2024, the day after the City of Madrid's official announcement. Both reports describe a light perimeter installed on the sides and rear of the vehicles, which is particularly visible at night, in narrow streets, and in confined work spaces.

Ledpowerlight® equipment implemented with FENIKS

The vehicles in question were outfitted by FENIKS, the exclusive distributor of Ledpowerlight® in Spain for the road maintenance sector. FENIKS uses Ledpowerlight® solutions to carry out these installations and adapt them to the specific needs of the vehicles.

The light lines are projected directly onto the road surface and move with the vehicle. They complement the warning lights, work lights, and other safety measures already in place.

An additional visual aid

The light perimeter is not a physical barrier and does not replace standard operating procedures, regulatory signage, or the vigilance of drivers, staff, and other road users.

It provides an instantly visible marker around the vehicle, the perception of which depends on factors such as ambient lighting, road surface, installation height, and selected settings.
